Hanalei Bay
The crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay is surrounded by magnificent and grand mountains that guard and protect her. Although known as a premier surfing spot in the winter, this North Shore jewel is also a playground the rest of the year for swimming, canoe racing and fishing. |
Take Highway 56 north toward Hanalei. After crossing the Hanalei Bridge proceed toward Hanalei town. Turn right on Aku Road, and then turn right on Weke Road. Hanalei Pavilion is located on the left. |

Ha`ena State Park
Located literally at the end of the road, Ha`ena State Park and Ke'e Beach are probably the most visited attractions on Kauai. Teeming with tropical fish, Ke`e Beach is an ideal snorkeling spot. Please use caution because currents can be very strong here.

Polo on the beach
The ancient sport of kings and their horses came to Hawaii more than 100 years ago, and finds its Kauai home at Anini Beach Park, every summer Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. Great for a tailgate party! |

Kilauea Lighthouse
Built in 1913, the Kilauea Lighthouse beacon used to steer ships traversing the blue Pacific to safety. It's also a favorite stop for bird watchers with the Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge right next door.

Opaeka`a Falls
One of several scenic sites in the Wailua area, Opaeka`a Falls is named for the tiny native shrimp (opae) found in the pools below. Their annual egg-laying dyes the water of the pools and falls red.

Take Highway 56 south toward Kapaa for 21 miles. Turn right on Kuamo`o Road (HI-580) and follow for approximately 1.5 miles to the Opaeka`a Falls Lookout. |

Fern Grotto
This lovely natural amphitheater with its lush ferns is a favorite for weddings, but any visitor will enjoy riding the boat up the Wailua River and hearing Hawaiian music in the grotto's excellent acoustics.

Lydgate Beach Park
Typically calm and clear, Lydgate Beach pools are a favorite for young swimmers and beginning snorklers. Shade trees and grassy areas also make for an ideal picnic spot.

Spouting Horn
This south-side wonder is a surf-driven 30-foot geyser that shoots through a submerged lava tube. The eerie sound it makes is said to come from a moo, or dragon, trapped in the tube.

Turn right onto Ahukini Road.Turn left onto Kuhio Hwy (HI-56 South), which becomes HI-50 West, follow for approximately 6 miles. Turn left onto Maluhia Road (HI-520) for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Koloa Road, then a quick left onto Poipu Road for approx. 1.5 miles. Turn slightly right onto Lawai Road for 1.9 miles. |

Turn left onto Kuhio Hwy (HI-56 South) which becomes HI-50 West, follow for approximately 23 miles. Turn Right onto Waimea Canyon Road (HI-550) for 6 miles. |
