PRINCEVILLE – Makani Kai Air is now Princeville Air on Kauai.
The airline, which began service between Honolulu and Princeville in May, is making the change to better reflect its role in the community, according to a press release. “The name Princeville Airways has history on Kauai, started in 1980,” said Richard Schuman, president. “We shortened the name but are celebrating that heritage and helping define what we’re about.”
Princeville Airways began scheduled services between Honolulu and Princeville that year using two de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otters. Princeville Air uses two twin-engine Piper Chieftains that can accommodate nine passengers each.
Flights between Princeville and Honolulu started up again May 1 after a 22-year hiatus. Princeville Air flies twice daily round-trips between Princeville and Honolulu Monday through Saturday.
“Historically speaking, residents of Kauai’s North Shore have shown a demand for direct air service to Honolulu,” said Schuman “Our customers have told us that we provide a valuable and necessary service and that they appreciate not having to fight traffic into Lihue nor go through a TSA line.”
The airline is offering a limited time one way $99 plus tax introductory airfare.
