Three Hawaii resorts on Maui and the Big Island and two restaurants in Honolulu have earned AAA Five Diamond ratings for 2014, while 20 hotels and resorts and eight restaurants have been given with the organization’s Four Diamond rating.
The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaupulehu and the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea were among 124 hotels, and the only Hawaii properties, to earn a Five Diamond rating from AAA, while Chef Mavro and La Mer at the Halekulani were among 59 restaurants in the nation to receive the top rating.
AAA notes that Five Diamond establishments “stand apart using highly personalized approaches and creativity to enhance guest comfort and provide memorable experiences.”
“At the ultra-luxury hotel level we’ve noted a move toward minimalism in design but not overall experience,” Michael Petrone, director, AAA Tourism Information Development, said in a statement.
He noted “an emphasis on privacy and intimacy with options like in-room fitness, private butler service and spa-like bathrooms.”
This year, AAA added six new hotels to the list and eight new restaurants; all of the Hawaii resorts and restaurants have received Five Diamond ratings before.
Here are the Hawaii hotels that received a Four Diamond rating, on Kauai:
- The St. Regis Princeville Resort
- The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas
