Trade group rates hotel brands; Starwood St. Regis at top
Los Angeles-based business traveler Danny Simons says no hotel can match the service, amenities, rooms and location of the St. Regis Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii.
"The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that you feel welcome and your experience is consistent, no matter how many times you stay there," Simons says. "From room service to the pool attendants to the managers, everyone at St. Regis is focused on ensuring that your stay is seamless and every detail is taken care of before you even think of it."
Simons, who works for a public affairs agency and stayed four nights at the 221-room resort overlooking Kauai's Hanalei Bay, may not be surprised at the results of Business Travel News' 2012 U.S. Hotel Chain Survey, which was released Monday.
The trade publication, which tabulated 221 responses from corporate travel departments, gave Starwood's St. Regis and Luxury Collection the highest overall score — 5.31 — of any hotel brand.
Each hotel's overall score is based on ratings on a one-to-six scale in up to 13 categories.
The categories including hotel appearance, quality of business and other amenities in the rooms, quality of business centers, helpfulness and courtesy of staff, and overall price and value.
The 5.31 score enables the Starwood brands to knock last year's highest-scoring hotel chain, Four Seasons, out of the No. 1 spot among luxury hotels. Four Seasons fell to fifth behind second-ranked Ritz-Carlton, the Waldorf Astoria, No. 3, and the Mandarin Oriental, No. 4.
